Welcome. You've found your way to a fractured galaxy.Dark Imperium is a collaborative writing and roleplay community set in the far future of Warhammer 40,000. The light of the Astronomican is distant, faith is strained, and survival is never guaranteed. Stories here are meant to feel earned, grounded, and shaped by consequence.
At the same time, this is a shared creative space. While the Warp may be cruel and unjust, we expect one another to act with fairness, respect, and good faith.
The Setting We Share
All roleplay on this site takes place entirely within the Warhammer 40,000 universe.This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or seeking to profit from Games Workshop, nor does it claim ownership of any Warhammer 40,000 intellectual property. All material inspired by the setting must be treated with respect and with consideration for immersion.
- Crossovers, tie-ins, or external franchises are not permitted
- Deliberate manipulation or rewriting of established community lore is not permitted
- Canon-named artefacts, relics, or unique wargear associated with established characters or legends may not be claimed, wielded, replicated, or substituted by player characters
The galaxy is vast. Your character exists within it, not above it.
Characters, Power, and Control
Characters in Dark Imperium are fantastic but gritty, epic yet grounded.God-Modding
God-modding is strictly prohibited.Players may not:
- Dictate the actions, reactions, injuries, deaths, or internal states of other characters
- Unilaterally declare successful attacks, unavoidable outcomes, or immunity to consequence
- Override another writer's agency for narrative advantage
Powerful characters are welcome. Invincible or flawless ones are not. Writers are expected to include limitations, vulnerabilities, and consequences in their characters.
Character Death
The death of a player character is the sole decision of that character's writer, unless:- Explicitly agreed in advance, or
- Part of a moderator-approved event or narrative framework
Consent and Player Agency
Consent is non-negotiable.Any form of:
- Possession
- Mind control
- Coercion
- Torture or similarly extreme content
Requires the explicit consent of the affected character's writer.
Consent may be withdrawn at any time, for any reason.
No player may force another into a theme, situation, or outcome they are not comfortable engaging with.
Restricted Characters and Entities
The Warhammer 40,000 universe contains gods, primarchs, immortals, and setting-defining beings. These are not player-controlled roles.Players may not portray, directly control, or assume the voice or actions of:
- Established characters
- Gods
- Primarchs
- Immortal or setting-defining entities
Characters representing exceptional or faction-defining figures such as:
- Greater Daemons
- Adeptus Custodes
- Living Saints
- Comparable entities
Require explicit moderator approval prior to play. Approval may be conditional on narrative scope, context, or ongoing events.
Escalation and Large-Scale Events
Dark Imperium is a shared setting. As such, large-scale actions are carefully managed.The following require explicit administrator approval and may only occur in designated, moderator-approved threads:
- Planetary-scale destruction
- Exterminatus-level actions
- Weapons, assets, or abilities capable of permanently altering shared locations, factions, or the setting
Players may propose such developments. They may not enact them independently.
Collaboration and Out-of-Character Conduct
Conflict between characters can be compelling. Conflict between writers is not.All participants are expected to:
- Act cooperatively out of character
- Communicate in good faith
- Treat roleplay as a collaborative effort, not a competition
Purposeful flaming, harassment, or encouragement of disruptive or hostile community behaviour will not be tolerated.
Content Standards and Age Requirements
This is an 18+ forum. All users and all player characters must be 18 years of age or older.The following are strictly prohibited:
- Excessive swearing
- Pornography, explicit sexual content, nudity, or bestiality
- Abusive or threatening language or behaviour
- Material depicting minors in illegal, sexual, or exploitative situations
- Encouragement, depiction, or coordination of real-world illegal activity
- Advertising or promotion of external websites, services, or products for personal gain
- Plagiarism in any form
Romantic or sexual themes must remain non-explicit and fade-to-black.
Real-World Politics and Extremism
While the Imperium of Man explores dark and challenging themes within a fictional context, the use of or allusion to real-world extremist ideologies, hate groups, or political movements is explicitly forbidden.This applies regardless of intent, framing, or narrative role, including villainous, ironic, or satirical portrayals.
Discussion of real-world politics, religion, or current events is not permitted, either out of character or in proxy form in character.
Administrative Authority
Moderation staff retain the authority to:- Review content
- Restrict or remove material
- Enforce narrative balance and community standards
This includes situations where a specific edge case is not explicitly listed but is deemed to undermine collaborative play or the health of the community.
These rules are subject to change. Failure to comply may result in moderation action, restriction of access, or permanent account suspension. By proxy, they also extend to any Discord server that is affiliated with this community.
If You're Unsure
You're not expected to know everything immediately.If you're unsure whether something fits:
- Ask in an out-of-character space
- Speak to a moderator
- Check in with the other writer involved
We would always rather guide an idea early than intervene later.

This is a space for people who enjoy slow-burn tension, earned stakes, and the fragile humanity that survives even at the edge of the abyss.Take your time. Read around. Introduce your character when you're ready.
The Warp is unforgiving.
