Biography: Born on Baal, in Hive Primus, the chief of the Hive cities dotting the wasteland that was the planet's surface, found himself fortunate to be in the family he was.
Before the Age of Silence, his clan had resided on Necromunda. The Redmond Clan had established itself as integral members of the Spider Gang for untold generations before him, tending to make themselves indispensable members of the PDF and in turn the Necromunda 8th, whenever the muster call came. Being the enforcers of the planetary nobility had held it's perks, granting them a Clan home and some luxuries in a better level than your average factorum worker, but not quite that of those in the Spire. Violence was an accepted part of life and seen as vital to the continued survival of the clan, with their duty to House Van Saar, requiring frequent travel to the Underhive to dispense of Rival Gang members or move product or tech for their masters. Even during "peace time" on the planet, when the PDF or Guard wasn't engaged with Orks or some other threat from beyond the void, Redmonds found their lives to be those of soldiers. Their loyalty and blood repayed with retirements, though few made it to such an age, and the continued retention and growth of the Redmond clan, facilitated and supported by the planetary elite. The dependents of those in Service, gang or otherwise, rarely had to work beyond basic duties at the communal Redmond home. Except in times where the Clan was brought to the brink by the cost of duty, them they would be expected to take the roles of the fallen and uphold the family. With their pay they created their own internal support system for themselves, ensuring that orphans would stay within the family as opposed to being shipped off to some Imperial Academy or Orphanage. Unlike many of those living in the mega city, they were granted brief moments of levity within their own, private bubble, protected by others that actually gave a gak about their hides. At least, within the confines of their district.
Some youth rarely found themselves taken or volunteering for the Imperial Fists. Though the nature of the Adeptus Astartes chapter left their fates to mystery. If they ever had encountered them again it was from behind their helmets, and doubtless the Stoical discipline had prevented contact. Though it was just as likely that the kin had perished in the trials.
Such was the way of things for generations, until the 8th found itself called to Baal during the Age of Silence, responding dutifully to a call to assist the sector with one of the first fleets to respond. They found themselves fortunate to make it to the sector and not be torn apart by The Warp, like much of the responding fleet. The 8th fought during the Devastation of Baal and not having a path home, settled on the world as Dante began to turn it into a beacon of hope for the region, defying the wretched Gods of the Warp and the Xenos threatening to snuff out their light. The surviving Redmonds restablished themselves on Baal in the model of their ancestors, as gangers and soldiers, with a tighter clan bond than many. The Spiders now had two halves in two seperate parts of the galaxy, independent of each other with the lack of contact.
So began another cycle.
Lucius followed the path typical of the men in his Clan, joining the Spiders at a young age and proving himself to be capable enough that by his mid teens he was committing hits for the Spiders in the Underhive. Due to his upbringing, Lucius found the gang life to suit him. Constant rewards and positive reinforcement from his family and the upper echelon of the Hive seated him firmly into the role. There was a nature to things, a order, and he was simply another piece on the grand planetary board, trying to survive. As was family tradition Lucius married his childhood sweetheart Sera and had children quickly, providing for them with the income from the Spiders and adding further to the family treasury.
As Lucius contemplated his decisions, now a family man with a wife and four children (Cato, Hera, Ava, and Cicero) at the age of twenty two, he found the decision made for him. The PDF drafted him and many of the other Redmonds not already in the PDF or Guard to crush an insurgency that had exploded beneath the lower levels of the hive. Over the course of a year of vicious urban combat, the PDF completely destroyed the traitors, leaving none alive. Lucius's unit had distinguished itself and those who had showed extra initiative or bravery found themselves again drafted, this time into the 8th, after a previous destruction, to fight an orc horde that had gathered in strength in the wastes and needed to be dealt with. Lucius found himself in trenchlines fighting against the horrific greenskins. The war with the orcs lasted for a year, in fierce, inhospital conditions, drawing much of the newly reformed 8th into heavy combat with ork infantry and armor. Sentient fungi turned out to be horrifyingly tough opponents. During the conflict, Lucius further distinguished himself when his platoon assaulted an ork stronghold, when the defenders wiped out much of the Imperial force and left only a few companies standing after. The assault only succeding because of the efforts of the ncos like Redmond still alive, and with a bayonet charge winning the day. Lucius was both bayoneted several orks before drawing the attention of a warboss , losing both his left arm and leg to a warboss during the charge.
Lucius was outifitted with the implants he'd seen on so many of his family over the years. A mark seen as a tradition similar to the spider tattoos they all bore. The total cost was both his left arm and leg, along with his eye, and third degree burns across much of his body. His face bore the long scars of radiation winds endures during the campaign, marking a shortining of his lifespan along with a sign of his veterancy.
Lucius returned home while he and the 8th recouperated from the now ending war with the orks. He spent a good five years with his family there, awaiting reactivation as the 8th recruited new members and awaited the Regient's call, or that of the local nobility. Despite his trials and suffering, Lucius remains a loyal servant of the God Emperor of Mankind and the Empire, having seen and felt firsthand the chaos that devours in His absence. Him and the Redmonds will keep their faith until extinction.
