Overview
  • Membership: Although the Blackcloth Berserkers get their name from the Initiates who followed Eosbrenn Hildra into heresy, thusly becoming a mockery of the once proud Black Templar aspiring warriors, they gradually started accepting other Renegades into their ranks, as the casualties after long campaigns and the attrition inflicted by the Heralds' foes. For one to become a Blackcloth berserker means that they abandon the prospect of climbing the ranks, or reason entirely, for the veneration of the Blood God in his most sacret a site: The Field of Battle. The Berserkers rarely partake in rites, or strategic consultations, instead are deployed where fighting grows the thickest, while more often than nought are distanced from the rest of the Heralds' forces, to avoid killing their own in the frenzy of carnage.

Blackcloth Berserkers are also the most independent units, frequently reported deploying in isolated smaller scale raids, against either Imperial positions, or vessels, or lesser defended worlds, while fighting other Chaos bands is not unheard of.

Historical Information
Black-Templars-Era-Indomitus.jpg

The Blackcloth Berserkers trace their origins to the Initiate Hordes that followed Reclusiarch Eosbrenn Hildra during the final campaigns against the Word Bearers in the Maelstorm. Characterized by their blind loyalty to their commanders, and the furious zeal through which they enacted attrocity against the Imperium's wicked foes, when the Heralds fell to the Warp's taint, their ships were engulfed in storms of Chaos, with tendrils stretching to the deepest levels of their temple ships.
Among the Heralds, the Initiates were of the weakest will, at least in terms of psychic resolve, leading numerous among them to befall into madness, or worse, their bodies and minds be twisted into daemonic abominations, becoming beckons of what awaited the rest, in the Warp.

Amidst this catastrophe, the Initiates, instead of bowing their heads to the inevitable doom, they summoned their wrath and determination and with chain axes at hand, charged those of their once brethren who had befallen to daemonic taint, butchering them to the last. Many among them perished, though those who remained, had been so invested in the carnage wreacked, they unknowingly were fully taken over by the Blood God's will.

Now, unlike many of the Renegades of the Heralds, the Blackcloth Berserkers make battlefield of any territory they walk over, screaming the name of the Blood God in renewed zeal and near-inexhaustible reservoir of brutality.
