Description:
The Knights of the Silent Hunt are a Dark Angels successor Chapter stationed on the mountainous death world of Nemoris Prime in the Makenna Sector of Imperium Nihilus. Raised to operate along unstable warp corridors following the Great Rift, the Chapter specializes in containment warfare against Chaos incursions. Known for their disciplined and measured doctrine, the Knights avoid spectacle and crusading excess, instead focusing on isolating threats before they can destabilize entire systems. Their presence is most strongly felt along the Tartora frontier, where Khornate warbands have historically attempted repeated incursions.
Overview:
Influence
The Knights of the Silent Hunt primarily operate within the Makenna Sector, particularly along its frontier regions where warp routes have become unstable since the opening of the Great Rift.
Their influence is military rather than political. The Chapter does not rule the sector but acts as a stabilizing force, responding to Chaos incursions, renegade fleets, and emerging cult activity. Imperial authorities in the region often rely upon the Knights when threats exceed the capabilities of local forces.
The Chapter's presence is most frequently associated with the defense of Tartora, a fortress world located halfway between the Makenna sector and the eye of Terror that has repeatedly been targeted by Khornate warbands.
Membership:
Membership within the Knights of the Silent Hunt is limited to those who successfully survive the Chapter's aspirant trials.
Primary recruitment occurs on Nemoris Prime (Submission Incoming), where aspirants are drawn from highland clans accustomed to the planet's harsh conditions. Prospective initiates must undergo the Trial of the High Peaks, a solitary hunt in the upper mountain ranges where they must slay one of the planet's megafaunal predators without the use of firearms.
Those who survive are inducted into the Chapter as neophytes and begin the long process of Astartes transformation and training.
Player characters may join the organisation as members of the Chapter, typically beginning within one of the Battle Companies or specialist formations such as the Mortis Wing or Noctis Wing.
Current player members include:
Uriel Valcarn and Korvain Montcairn
Hierarchy
The Knights of the Silent Hunt follow a hierarchical structure consistent with other Unforgiven Space Marine Chapters.

Uriel Valcarn: Chapter Master and Lord of Nemoris Prime
Inner Circle
Senior command body responsible for strategic decisions and Chapter governance.
Company Structure
1st Company: Mortis Wing
Elite Terminator and veteran formation equivalent to the Deathwing.
2nd Company: Noctis Wing
Fast attack and reconnaissance formation similar to the Ravenwing.
3rd–5th Companies
Battle Companies organized along Codex Astartes lines.
6th–9th Companies
Reserve Companies providing tactical, assault, and fire support reinforcements.
10th Company

Holdings
Nemoris Prime: Chapter World
A mountainous death world that serves as the primary recruitment planet and base of operations for the Knights of the Silent Hunt.
Caer Thren: Fortress-Monastery
An ancient mountain citadel that predates Imperial rule of Nemoris Prime. Originally the stronghold of House Thren, it was repurposed as the Chapter's fortress-monastery following the Knights' founding.
Rotational Operational Presence: Tartora Corridor
The Chapter maintains a rotating deployment presence near Tartora and surrounding warp corridors, allowing rapid response to emerging threats.
Resources
The Knights possess the typical military resources of a Codex-compliant Space Marine Chapter, including:
- Approximately 900–1000 battle-brothers
- Terminator armor and relic wargear within the Mortis Wing
- Strike cruisers and rapid strike vessels
- Thunderhawk gunships and armored vehicles
- Gene-seed vaults maintained within Caer Thren
While capable of void operations, the Chapter does not maintain unusually large fleet assets and frequently coordinates with Imperial Navy forces during major campaigns.
Historical Information
The Knights of the Silent Hunt were raised during the reinforcement efforts that followed the opening of the Great Rift. Their assignment placed them along the unstable frontier of the Makenna Sector, where fractured warp routes allowed Chaos forces to appear unpredictably.
The defining conflict in the Chapter's history is known as the Tartoran Severance, a six-year war fought during the late–M43 era when a Khornate splinter warband known as the Gorebound Covenant launched a full invasion of the fortress world Tartora. The Knights committed nearly their entire strength to the campaign, eventually defeating the invaders but suffering catastrophic losses. During the decisive battle at Bastion Varos, the Chapter's Supreme Grand Master was slain by the Khornate warlord Kargoth the Red Tide.
Uriel Valcarn, then serving as Grand Master of the Mortis Wing, arrived too late to prevent the killing blow but personally slew the warlord and assumed command of the remaining forces. In the years following the conflict, he was elevated to Supreme Grand Master.
Under Valcarn's leadership the Chapter rebuilt its strength and refined its operational doctrine toward strategic containment rather than aggressive crusading warfare. Today the Knights of the Silent Hunt remain a vigilant force along the Makenna frontier, maintaining a watchful presence against the Chaos warbands that continue to test the defenses of the Imperium Nihilus.
