Public Non Serviam

The stench of the aristocracy was something that Agathocles had the frequent displeasure of inhaling. Their expensive colognes and perfumes standing in stark contrast to the world his family had always inhabited, one of sharp metals and the smells of endless work, death. As the majority of the citizens of the Hive did as well. They'd always held themselves apart as they lived off their labor and blood. It made him want to put a knife in their painted faces. It made the ganger glad for his iho stick.

He smiled as a young lord with a painted face slid an envelope across his desk. The aristocracy were frequent customers of the vices offered in the sublevels, on a private basis of course. They paid extra for the silence and discretion. All sanctioned by the lawmakers he saw on a regular basis. Degenerates the lot of them. Luckily his general aura had a sort of quiet hostility that masked his more intense internal hatred for them. Most simply took it as the natural vibe put off by a ganger in charge of four hive levels, though his crew hadn't ever hurt a noble before by reputation unless it was an Imperial sanctioned action. Made him safer than some of the other sources to retrieve illicit substances from. Publically at least. So far there had been three outside of that.

He nodded politely and maintained the smile as the noble left the large shack that served as one of Agathocles's day to day haunts. A ramshackle cantina, one of several, unassuming unless you knew what was happening inside. The man smoked and stretched as he walked to the door frame from his seat, leading out into the larger portion of the small, crowded bar. The patrons were working class hive citizens, from gangers and PDF to factorum laborers. In seperate corners sat two tables of four, all eight his people, security for himself and the establishment. Along with the bartender and the busboy, cook, and server. The iho smoke drifted from his smoke and mingled with the other small clouds drifting from others. Redmond had made it his business to be extremely kind to the general populations of the levels, best he could. It had earned him their loyalty, particularly above their actual, God Emperor given, masters. His levels were the safest on the Hive, and he publically crucified any that violated that peace. One such vagrant, a thief from another level, sat positioned at the level's entrance as the morning rush went by.

His bars stayed busy, as he kept them open twenty four hours and the hive had shifts that ran at all hours. They were one of the few places you could frequent at any time and barring good behavior, safely walk home through the hive level after.

Agathocles smiled. Proud of his handywork as he observed the space and excited for the prospect's and work that the day would bring. There'd been rumors of some freshly disturbed loot retrieved from the underhive by some ambitious young gangers, hidden away among the general rabble some levels below, or so the rumors said. There was talk of jewlery and books, at the very least. If there was even a kernel of truth it was worth a look, knock on a few doors and ask a couple questions. His rich clientele would buy either.

Lucian adjusted the clasp of his cloak, the golden chain that held it upon his lithe frame glistened in the dim light.

As he entered into the bar, a spot he had become quite a frequent sight at, he swept a hand through his shoulder length blonde hair. He knew well enough what his looks did for him, just another tool in his arsenal.

He was hear for purpose though, "fun and game" could wait until he'd gotten what he came for. Rumor had reached him of exotic new stims that Agathocles had procured. The young lordling wanted to see for himself if this were true or not.

The ganger was a rough sort but there was something about the way it felt being around the man. The sensation of danger the thrill of being near enough to someone that could do you harm.

Approaching the man, Lucian's ice-blue eyes appraised him, as he did everyone, almost like a piece of art, or a dish he was debating on tasting. It unnerved most, but the ganger had been supplying his more exotic requests for some time now. It was sure to be no surprise to see Lucian there.

Agathocles smiled at one of his more frequent, rich customers as they entered. A lordling with expensive tastes in various fineries and stims. The more illegal, the better, tended to be Lucian's tastes. The ganger motioned Lucian to his small office, where the previous noble had just left from only a few moments before. He placed a lockbox on the table before them from besids the desk, shutting the door behind the two and sitting in his simple chair behind the desk, one sat free for Lucian von Krain across from him. A single ceiling fan spun above circulating the hive air and casting a light inside the room, which had no windows and only a few sparse pieces of aging furniture.

"Lucian! Good to see you." He said as he opened unlocked the box and slid it to the other man. "Good stuff, that." Agathocles continued, motioning to the box. "New, top of the line chemistry. If ya like that, we can talk about getting ya as much as ya like."

He paused, taking a drag, mulling something over in his head for a moment, eyeing the noble in a contemplative manner. Each time they'd met, Lucian gave the stark impression of a hedonist. Someone that enjoyed the rush of life more than the layman, or lay noble for that matter. Which was an accomplishment all in itself for how often Imperial Nobility indulged their habits. The ganger couldn't count the amount of times he'd sat across from him, with either stims, cultural artifacts or anything else he thought Lucian would find interesting. Gave him an idea. Something that could endear the noble to him further.

"Beyond that... We're going on a run here to the underhive soon, to retrieve something interesting we found while... acquiring a business from some folks on another level. They had a map, to an Imperial Archive of somekind in the underhive. Scouts verified that the building housing the archive exists. We're gonna make our way in and find out exactly what they stored there. Dangerous work." He paused, wearing a wide smile "Would you like to see how the corpse starch is made?"

Lucian smiled at the welcome, he did like the older man, especially considering what their "friendship" had gained the young noble.
As they entered the small office, Lucian would take the seat across form his host, draping himself across the chair almost like he owned the place.

He was just as comfortable here, as in his own nightclub.

"Agathocles, you brute, you've been holding out on me!"

Lucian said by way of greeting

"I've heard it's something great, I have a party coming up in the next couple days and hope to debut these new chems there. If they are as good as you say, you already know I'll be back"

As his host puffed on his lho-stick, Lucian pulled out his own case.
Shining gold housed a neat row of silver-sticks. Though they were imported and soaked in Amasec and perfumed in a way that screamed "Luxury"

removing two, he offered one to his host.

"Would you like one? These are custom made for me, upped the stimulant factor and soaked in Amasec for that little 'kick'. Always happy to share!"

as he lit his lho, Agathocles spoke again, talking about a dangerous trek into the underhive. "Dangerous work" he had said, and that.. made Lucian lean forward.

"Dangerous you say? An old Imperial Archive.."

Lucian made a show of contemplating it, although Agathocles knew him well enough to know he'd ensnared the young man.

"Well! When do we leave?"

Agathocles smiled as Lucian seemed to turn the invitation around in is his brain. The ganger could already tell by the gleam in the noble's eye that they would say yes. Lucian and Agathocles both shared a rare quality that was sorely lacking in much of Hivus Primus, the urge for freedom. True freedom, though in different forms. A freedom beyond the prays and silence demanded of the more "loyal" subjects of the Imperium Nihilus, those whole hadn't seem to gotten it thru their thick skulls that they'd at the very least been abandoned by the God Emperor. Or the God Emperor wasn't strong enough to stem the tide of chaos sweeping throughout the galaxy. For all folks in Baal knew Terra could've gotten destroyed a millenia ago. Both thought it better to forge one's own path, though of course only discussed such things in friendly company, where one of the many eyes or ears of the God Emperor would be absent. Whispers from somewhere Agathocles was having trouble conceptualizing occassional spoke hidden truths to him. So far plenty useful, and correct in his business endevors. The whispers spoke of the God Emperor as a corpse, resisting an inevitable tide.

He politely turned Lucian down, content with the effects of the iho, and needing to keep a sharpness for the task ahead. Particularly the management of the gangers coming with them. "We'll leave in a couple hours. Will give you enough time to gather whatever or whoever you may need for the trip. We'll be gone at least a day, it's a bit of a hike down, then we'll have to navigate a bit of the underhive." He paused. "Be.... very careful on who you may bring. Either someone you trust with your life or someone you don't mind disposing of after the fact. Depending on what we find, we want to be sure no one else knows we have it."

"The dangerous bit is that is we know about it there's a safe bet other gangs or skavs do as well. Or if some authorities show up and we happen to have our hands on something untoward."

He lowered his voice

"The mutant we got the info from, claimed hints of things the.... Inquisitors may not want us having. Or seeing. Or thinking about."
