Appearance:
Godwyn stands at 6ft, and has maintained superb physical fitness even while middle aged, sporting a fit wiry frame. In between battles, Godwyn tends to engage in routine exercise, both out of personal enjoyment - and a desire to keep himself disciplined. His hair is kept carefully cut short, and his face is marked with the various burn scars and blade marks of a hundred battles. Each scar offering a past lesson, and for others: symbols of his experience and resolute devotion to the Imperium. Godwyn's expression typically remains stoic, rarely changing even in the heat of battle. His composure works to the benefit of troop morale. His gaze can be likened to that of a dragon's, a fierce, powerful, and unyielding intensity. Those same dark eyes can soften in rare moments, usually when intimately conversing with those under his command.

Godwyn prefers to dress in his uniform, almost feeling 'undressed' without it. That said, he has made subtle modifications to it - such as his reinforced chestplate, pauldrons, and leggings. These too have seen action, and instead of replacing them, Godwyn has opted to keep them well maintained. He enjoys the 'living history' of it, finding it helps to maintain the image of: 'Skilled, Stoic, and Professional'.

Merits and Flaws (Required: 2 Flaws Minimum) :
- (Merit) Battlefield Control: Godwyn is an Officer who understands the factors of battle from a perspective that doesn't just boil down to suicide charges and mindlessly shouting "For the Emperor!" in hopes of victory. Godwyn takes steps preemptively to stack as many conditions in the Imperium's favor. He is determined never to be caught off guard, and to always be the one deciding when battle is to begin, rather than have it be forced upon him by any xenos army.
- (Merit) Inspiration: Godwyn's resolute nature, fiery declarations, and firm discipline inspire those alongside him to fight to their last.
- (Flaw) Elite Stigma: Godwyn's beliefs, while not directly heretical, can lead to him drawing on unwanted attention and disapproval from his own faction. More often than not, those in power over the Imperium's institutions. Though he has proven himself capable, and utterly devoted to the 'righteous cause' of the Imperium, he has never been fully trusted by those outranking him.
- (Flaw) Reliance on Battlefield Control: Should his enemy refuse to play directly into his hand, or turn Godwyn's advantages against him, Godwyn can struggle to ensure a 'secure' victory, in spite of his adaptability.

Biography:
Godwyn does not remember his father. He was only told by the Schola Progenium that he was, "A valiant warrior, with the utmost devotion to the Emperor." Even as a child, who's sense of self was all-but stripped from him by his teachers, Godwyn doubted the legitimacy of that claim. Though, he was no dissenter. His devotion and belief in the Emperor as the sole unifying force behind humanity, and, to him,
"The Last Hope of any form of lasting peace in the universe."
Godwyn would strictly believe in the authority of the Emperor, accepting the reality of endless war that was the Galaxy, all despite Terra being completely cut off from him and many generations before. That said - part of him, even at such an early age, would wonder if the Emperor's existence even mattered anymore.

Throughout his years at the academy, Godwyn would mostly keep to himself, save for his best friend, Königin de Germania, whom he cannot name for fears her memory will cause him too much grief.
She was, and still is, his closest confidant.
The pair shared many of the same views in regards to stratagem, ideology, and even... an unspoken hope that perhaps one day, long after they were gone, peace could be possible for future generations.
The two often shared 'secret studies', outside of time they spent sparring each other and drilling Imperial code into their heads, often reading up on any 'old literature' they could get their hands on. Godwyn himself was fascinated with what life was like predating himself, making (in some cases - very inaccurate) guesses at what ancient human cultures were like. Though, given the lack of preserved knowledge, Godwyn had little to go off of.
Godwyn would graduate with flying colors, his devotion to the Imperium unquestionable, he and Königin were deemed fit for the Officio Prefectus.

Roughly two years after becoming a Commissar, Godwyn would manage to distinguish himself. He did so by having both survived twice as long as the average Commissar, and shown excellent tactical & martial prowess. Though imperfect, Godwyn would aspire to learn from every engagement. He would oversee a period of (comparatively) record-low casualties among units under his joint command with the Astra Militarum.
Following a particularly rough campaign, where he witnessed the death of many a brave guardsmen and space marines alike, Godwyn would find a brief reprieve when Königin would mother her pair of twins as a means of 'celebrating' the front's survival. Their names: Iria & Lyra. The pair would be kept away from the Frontline, given having two infants on hand would've been an immense liability.
Unfortunately - that mattered little. As, unexpectedly, the front resumed. The Imperium would manage to keep hold of the world, but at a grave cost. Many units were lost in the fighting, Königin was among the casualties. Godwyn was able to find her body amidst the sea of rubble, and, reportedly, cried while holding her. This was the only time he'd ever been seen doing so, and has never mentioned it again.

Godwyn would take it upon himself to ensure Königin's daughters were tranported to the Schola Progenium, feeling it was his responsibility.

Shortly following Königin's death, Godwyn would have a chance encounter with a Catheric refugee. Godwyn would uncover the man's faith after questioning his prayers at such a time. In a fit of grief, he nearly had him reported to the Inquisition to be immediately killed on the spot, but the Old man's compassion disarmed him. He was handed a Catheric cross, and told that God had forgiven him as the elder walked away.
This would lead Godwyn to dig into the origins of 'Cathericism', the faith all but unknown to him at the time, pouring through dozens of ancient texts in-between frontline fighting. He became obsessed with understanding how a man could be so calm and forgiving in such a hopeless world. Godwyn would undergo his conversion experience mid-battle, when, despite believing he'd arranged factors perfectly, he along with various units of Guardsmen were nearly slaughtered. He would pray - not to the Emperor, but to the 'God' spoken of in the ancient texts.
His prayers answered with the survival of him and his men, from that day Godwyn has been a devoted Catheric. His faith would be enough to keep him going, and revive his youthful hope for a better future, in a galaxy without any.
To avoid the ire of the Inquisition, Godwyn was careful to frame his faith. He would claim that the Emperor is, "The Greatest Man to have ever lived." and re-affirm him as the leader of humanity. However, he would personally avow that his ordained leadership was the will of God. This was enough to satisfy the Inquisition, though, depending on how his claims are interpreted, they can be taken as an affirmation or violation of the Imperial creed.

Today, regardless of belief, Godwyn serves the Imperium, as he believes he shall unto his death. He fights not because it is reality, nor because he was trained to. He fights for a hope that one day - generations and generations beyond him, humanity shall know peace. And deep inside him, a small part hopes that this is enough to satisfy his memory of Königin.
