HISTORY
Aurellia Fiore Roth was born to the Noble House of Grathix on the fringe Knight World of Valmire situated in the Imperium Nihilus. Valmire is a harsh arctic Feudal World where temperatures rarely exceed freezing. The people live behind a series of large concentric walls to escape the predations of large warp-mutated beasts native to the world. The Knights were responsible for protecting the settlements of humanity and occasionally venturing out to battle the beasts in annual hunts intended to hone their skills. Her father, Gerhardt, is the Baron of the Iron Gate, one of the exterior settlements that allows passage out into the frozen wilds and thus tasked with safeguarding the Imperium's perimeter on Valmire. Her mother, Rosaline, was slain only a few weeks after Aurellia was born when one of the beasts managed to climb the wall, leaving her to be raised by her elder sister, Guinevere Claudia Grathix.
Her father, being a high ranking noble and a Knight with significant reputation, was often called into the wider Imperium Nihilus to Crusade and reclaim lost worlds which kept him away from his seat of influence for years at a time, and so Aurellia did not meet her father until she was already six years old.
Guinevere proved to be the sterner of the two, with her father often doting on Aurellia when he was able to return home between crusades, corresponding with her through messages that sometimes took months to arrive with tales of his heroism and exploits. Guinevere ensured Aurellia was well-educated, spending much of the family's wealth on tutors and instructors, while she took a personal hand in training Aurellia in combat at a young age. Shortly after Aurellia's eleventh birthday during a collection of the tithe, she was discovered to be psychically dense, a Null to some degree and was thus claimed by the Black Ships without ceremony or grace. Her father was not even present to say goodbye at the time.
Aurellia was claimed by the Inquisition upon arrival on Terra, taken under the orders of Master Inquisitor Brontus Nero, a high ranking Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus. Master Nero was almost unfathomably ancient, having been serving among the Inquisition by the Gothic War, though much of his own history had become shrouded in secrecy and rumor. The enigmatic Inquisitor usually communicated with his vast web of informants through coded messages, only appearing to them in holographic form that changed sporadically. However, she found herself among his inner circle, speaking directly with the venerable Inquisitor as she was trained to become a member of the Inquisition.
Master Nero had her tutored by members of the Schola Progenium and trained in combat by a range of instructors from the Imperial Guard, the Crusader Houses, and a Death Cult Assassin named Vash who serves the enigmatic Inquisitor. The remainder of her teenage years were spent with a grueling daily routine of psychological conditioning at the hands of the Inquisitor Lord, physical training with his instructors, and meticulous study. The Inquisitor himself focused on harnessing her abilities related to her Null Assignment, teaching her how to channel her aura, to mask it, and how to detect the subtle disturbances in the warp.
When Aurellia finally graduated from training put her in command of a small team and unleashed them into the Spinward Front to experience grueling war to temper his acolyte in the hellfire of combat. Aurellia spent five years fighting in the Spinward Front, battling traitors and separatists as part of a Direct Action team going behind enemy lines or taking on important roles through sprawling hive cities, deep in labyrinthine underhives, rain-soaked trenches that stretch for miles, and boarding actions through ork pirate ships. Her missions took her to eliminate priority targets behind enemy lines, scour and discover informants and criminals aiding the enemy, dismantle the operations of Narco-Barons who sought to profit off the guardsmen suffering through the endless conflicts in the Spinward Front. -
APPEARANCE
Aurellia is the result of the culmination of centuries of selective breeding and training by the nobility of the Imperium, and considered in peak physical and psychological conditioning. She is a relatively tall, lean, and athletic woman built for her brawling style of combat. She stands around 1.78 meters barefoot, and weighs around 75 kilograms. Aurellia has feminine curves, but is covered in striated lean muscle on her thighs, shoulders, obliques, and biceps.
Explicator Roth has dirty blonde hair, usually kept cropped short, hanging just past her ears or short on the sides and longer on top. She has dark green eyes and most often wears dark eyeliner and eye shadow to appear as though her eyes are sunken in and more piercing. Typically she is well kept, only a few small subtle scars on her body from her years of service to the Golden Throne, spending and requisitioning high-end medicae products to remove the signs of injury she accumulates.

PERSONALITY
Aurellia is driven, motivated by a deep devotion to the Imperium of Man, the God-Emperor, and the purpose of Inquisition that goes far deeper than her psycho-conditioning. She is a Recongregationalist, believing that the old power structures of the Imperium have stagnated humanity and must be rebuilt in order for mankind to prevail, making her a natural supporter of the reborn Primarch, Roboute Guilliman and his reforms.
She has been hardened by her life, having been forced to execute former comrades who broke under the influence of the Ruinous Powers, ordered an Exterminatus that saw nine billion loyal Imperial souls slain on her command for the good of the Imperium, and having spent a five years of her youth moving from warzone to warzone with minimal time to recuperate. It is her duty to the Imperium to make the hard choices, determine the sacrifices that must be made and carry them out in the name of the God-Emperor of Mankind. Even knowing it is her duty, the blood of martyrs weigh heavy on her heart and mind, flashes of a million tormented faces haunt her in the quiet hours, silenced only by the knowledge that she had made the best decision at the time.
Though she can enjoy someone's camaraderie, even share in moments of levity with her comrades, she has no friends and is incapable of forming true friendships. Aurellia has learned to fake the act well enough, but she is guarded against truly feeling such attachments. Firstly, because everyone must be under suspicion because anyone can fall to the Dark Gods' influence at any time, and secondly because she may have to spend their lives like pawns in the Great Game. Attachment might prevent that, or cause her hesitation, cloud her judgment which must be razor keen at all times.

Phi (-4) Ranked Psychic Null
Aurellia is a moderately powerful Psychic Null, being categorized as a psychically dense individual upon close inspection by the Inquisition, ranked somewhere between Chi and Phi, granting her a heightened resistance to the presence of the Warp. While not outwardly noticeable to most people, she comes off as cold and anti-social without close inspection through Warp Senses. Those attempting to use Psychic abilities on her notice significant added difficulty in doing so, especially telepathic powers and illusionary projections. Warp energy dampens as it approaches her and her body shrugs off attempts to manipulate its functions. In the Warp, her emotions seem non-existent, making her appear uncanny to those used to detecting others through their psychic abilities.
- Null Field, she is able to expand her aversion to the Immaterium around herself with great effort, providing a weak, but noticeable dampening field that provides a limited resistance to Psychic influences. Psykers near her struggle to maintain their connection to the warp, blasts of psychic energy weaken or dissipate entirely. Telepathic connections are broken and illusions and psychic phenomena vanish as the field expands from within her to cover several meters.
- Soulless, though typically unnoticeable to mundane humans, her unnatural aura can be unleashed, unsettling those about her and causing them struggle to hide their own emotions and intentions. Psykers are afflicted even more so, often suffering headaches, nosebleeds, or a ringing in their ears.
- Witchsense, unlike most Nulls, Aurellia possesses an extremely rare gift that allows her to sense the subtle traces of Warp influence, noticing the currents and eddies that flow throughout the Materium and the disturbances caused by psykers and psychic phenomenon if she focuses.

WARGEAR
Spathean Light Carapace, a form-fitting variant of Enforcer Light Carapace armor from the planet Spathea. Its badges and insignias are removed easily when she is working undercover or trying not to advertise her allegiances. It consists of light, flexible segmented plates that protect well enough against most mundane weaponry such as lasguns or autoguns and sleek enough for a trench coat or cloak to be worn over it.
Tang War-pattern Power Fist, a small and compact variant of the Power Fist worn over her right hand. It is simple to don and doff with a small internal power source rather than the large cables of other, more powerful models. It lacks some of the raw power, but is small enough to be worn without drawing significant attention, appearing as little more than an up-armored gauntlet unless inspected closely. The Jokaero have modified its balance and fine tuned the powerfields that sheath the weapon.
MK37 Locke-pattern Bolt Pistol, a well-made older variant of the most common bolter type found in the Koronus Expanse. Aurellia's is modified with an expanded magazine for a fifteen bolt double-stake, a fire-selector, and slightly improved range capabilities. It features a small four-bolt secondary tube for specialized ammunition, typically loaded with whatever bolts she feels necessary for her mission profile, including Hellfire, Inferno, Ulysses, Metal Storm, or Tempest bolts. She has been known to affix a suppressor to it from time to time.
Vraks Mk III Headhunter Autogun, carried only when going into warzones where a bolt pistols range will suffer. The Vraks Headhunter is keyed for semi-automatic fire or three-round burst-fire modes togged with a switch. Hers is modified with a custom grip, a modified stock, and has replaced the iron-sights with a reflex sight, all relatively simplistic modifications to an otherwise mass-market product.
Aside from her weaponry, Aurellia almost always has a Chrono, Microbead Transmitter, a handheld Auspex, dataslate, filtration plugs, a stablight, magnoculars, a multikey for accessing most doors and lifts, and a medicae kit. She almost always carries a small case of expensive Lho-stick cigars and a flask of recaf on her person, though she usually doesn't smoke. During investigations she carries a Comm Leech for listening in on suspect's vox transmissions, a pict recorder for saving images of crime scenes and evidence, and a signal jammer to shut down local communications right before conducting a raid. -
FAMILY
Dietrich Grathix IX, King of Valmire, Grandfather
- The reigning Planetary Governor of Valmire, King Grathix is Aurellia's maternal grandfather. After the death of his eldest child, Rosaline, he withdrew and became distant. He only met Aurellia sparingly, usually only during the Feast of the Emperor's Ascension held in his Great Hall or other official events, and the two have never spoken outside formal situations. He is several centuries old now, though he still appears to be in his mid-fifties due to regular rejuvenat treatments.
- His mount is the Ruptor Orion, a Knight Castellan
- Aurellia only met her father a few times, though he doted upon her and often sent her gifts while he was away on crusade. He has made several inquiries as to her status to the Adeptus Terra, but has received no word since she was claimed by the Inquisition. Gerhardt is just over one hundred years old, and has not had access to rejuvenat treatments enough to retain his youth, making him appear old and wizened, scarred from dozens of short campaigns through Imperium Nihilus.
- His mount is the Hyperion Redeemer, a Knight Errant
Deceased
- Dietrich's eldest child, Aurellia's mother, and the late wife of Gerhardt Roth. She was slain only a few weeks after Aurellia was born, and so she has no memories of her mother besides the several portraits hung within the Iron Gate she saw as a youth. Rosaline was said to be headstrong and a warrior first and the lady of the house second. Until her death she had been the heir to King Grathix's throne.
- Her mount was the Athena Vengeant, a Knight Gallant
Destroyed
- Aurellia's eldest sister, Heir of the Iron Gate and its sitting Regent, there is some rumor that she has a stronger claim to the throne of Valmire than her older uncle, Conrad, but she has yet to express a desire for such a lofty position despite some growing support from among the vassals. Their mother died when she was nineteen, forcing her into the role as Regent at a young age and giving her the responsibility of holding the House together in her father's absences, a burden she has borne without issue. She is stalwart and stern, having raised Aurellia in their father's absence she is more akin to a mother than a sister, having held the youngest child to the same high standards her mother set. Or so she hopes. She is a skilled politician and tactician, possessing a keen mind for strategy and strong charisma.
- She lacks a mount at this time, using an Armiger-class when she must venture out until such a time as the House of Grathix affords her a full fledged Questoris.
- Aurellia's older brother, who was a teenager when Aurellia was born. He was unable to complete the ritual of becoming when he was a teenager, but continues to serve as the leader of the Household Guard at the Iron Gate.

MASTER INQUISITOR BRONTUS NERO
The enigmatic Master Inquisitor is a venerable scion of the Golden Throne, having survived almost two thousand years of diligent service to the God-Emperor of Mankind. Having lived far beyond normal human expectancy, Brontus Nero is ancient. Machinery surrounds his frail body, various pumps, cables, and pipes connect his armor to arcane life support devices, filling him constantly with rejuvenat fluids and maintaining what remains of his organs. His flesh sags, barely clinging to old bones, deep wrinkles hide the scars of his service to the throne. With each breath he wheezes, the whirring of aging cybernetic organs audible to those in his proximity, as though after so many centuries even they have begun to fail. Only with the aid of his true-silver power armor is he able to walk, even then only a slow shuffle usually still aided by a servitor or close aid. His black robes shroud his body, hood worn low on his brow, trimmed in crimson and etched with gold and silver filigree marking runes of authority across his vestments wreathed over his shoulders. At this point in his unnaturally long life, he is confined to his quarters aboard his ship, usually sitting upon an obsidian throne surrounded by datamonitors, resembling a ghastly mirror of the depictions of the God-Emperor. Instead of a shining beacon of hope to all mankind, he is the shadow of fear made flesh, his presence palpable and cloying to those who look upon him. Like a weight placed upon their soul.
Master Nero radiates an aura of wrongness and fear so oppressive few can stand before him without a shiver of fear running up their spine. He has never been a frontline warrior, but instead he is a master puppeteer, pulling strings from his aliases and secret identities, and manipulating his allies and enemies alike in order to tug upon the strands of fate. He utilizes data gathered from a web of informants and spies, open-sourced information mined from across the entire sector, his own prophetic powers, and his immeasurable wisdom gained from two millennia to hypothesize unfolding events with cunning accuracy. To his servants he appears nigh-omniscient, and even those trying to hide information from him find themselves wilting beneath the piercing glow of his red eyes, forced to speak the whole truth as the chamber rumbles from his displeasure.
Everything about Master Nero is veiled in secrecy, redacted files, rumors and half-truths wrapped in falsehoods. A dozen different tales of his exploits exist, all as likely as another. Many of those in his employ are completely unaware they serve the Inquisition, and even those that do most serve one of his many aliases without realizing the interconnected web they find themselves in.
In truth, he is an Omega ranked Psychic Null, potent and well-versed in his abilities. He reads microexpressions and body language, is studied in tonal recognition, and complemented by the increased discomfort others feel in his presence. He is also learned in Enuncia, the language used to manipulate the very fabric of reality, though he knows precious few words in the powerful tongue and is loath to use it without dire need. -
