Overview
• Membership: Not limited to current Imperial Guard Members. Any Citizen in good standing may apply. Once a year, apirants show up to the Ater Eques barracks on level 30, then stay outside until invited in, for three days. They are invited inside for loyalty assessment, testing their loyalty to the Imperium and psychological evaluation while being fed a diet of corpse starch and water, sleeping on a small mat in a dingy room filled with other prospects, for another three days. Those that pass the initial two tests are then placed through a week long exhaustion course in the badlands, endless rucking and running on the radioactive dunes in full kit. Autoguns and mags. The second week continues in kind, with an increase in weight. Week three adds navigation, most who fail out there end up in the 8th or other Guard Regiments. Week four is the longest week, with recruits carrying their individual weight and that of a battery of crew served weapons, all on the same dunes. Those that make it thru week 4 are granted the choice to honorably leave and rejoin their regiments or freshly join the Guard if they hadn't been enlisted before. Week Five involves weapons training with the unit's autoguns, along with a healing week for the candidates bodies, and week six involves an unarmored excursion into fire scorpion territory.
After which, if they survive, the recruits are put into the training pipeline proper, a six month process of both field and traditional military training, learning a range of skills and becoming silent, brutal, proficient killers of the God Emperor's enemies.

Historical Information
Founded after concerned officers of the 8th got together and drafted a letter of intent, spearheaded by Lieutenant Redmond. The letter asked for the resources to create a specialized unit, under command of the five of the most elite and motivated of the junior officers, to combat the growing threat of chaos and general disorder throughout both the Baal systems and the Imperium Nihlus in general. They outlined a grueling selection process and proposed training protocals to elevate those that could follow them. Their Colonel, Grieves, kicked the idea up the chain and to Redmond's surprise he found himself promoted to Captain and in charge of the unit, an experiment by Command's standards. Him and the four Lieutenants that had backed the proposal selected sixty of the toughest enlisted the 8th had to offer, all who'd suffered and struggled for the Emperor of Man.
They were given a barracks, equipment, and dull tan/black uniforms for the lot of them, and now wait for their first orders.
